When you judge yourself

I feel I'm not enough

My friend, whatever you do seems too little. More work, more care for your people, more patience, a better body, and there is always a “more” you never reach. Somewhere, long ago, someone or something taught you that love is a right you have to earn. But a child does not earn love. A child receives it. You were that child once, and nothing you have done since has taken that right away. You can work at growing without always counting yourself behind. Your worth is not an exam you sit every day.

Questions for you

  1. Whose voice tells me it's not enough?

A possible answerSometimes a parent's, a teacher's, or a world that sells dissatisfaction. Listen to it, then ask whether you still want to believe it. An old voice is not necessarily a true one.

  2. What would “enough” actually mean for me?

A possible answerIf you can't answer, the target keeps moving. Give it edges: how much work, how much rest, what kind of person you want to be today. A target with edges can be reached.

  3. What have I finished and never celebrated?

A possible answerSmall and big things pass us by unnoticed, because we're already looking at the next one. Write down three. Not to boast, but to see the road you've walked.

  4. Whom do I love without asking them to be flawless?

A possible answerLook at how you love them: with their mistakes, with their bad days. The same love is possible toward yourself. It isn't weakness. It is a way of seeing the whole person.

Tonight's practice

Tonight, write three things you did today that mattered, however small. Underneath, write: “For today, it was enough.”

A thought to keep

“You are not an exam. You are a person growing.”

By the Fire print: You are not an exam. You are a person growing. For today, I have done enough.
